Learn to identify counterfeit LABUBU vinyl plush hanging cards with these practical checks and verdicts, so you can buy with confidence.
Quick Answer
Counterfeit LABUBU vinyl plush hanging cards are common, but you can spot them by checking the stitching, the card print quality, and the packaging details—not just the price.
Why Fakes Are So Common
LABUBU vinyl plush hanging cards are highly collectible and often sell for a premium, which makes them a prime target for counterfeiters. The Let's Checkmate series, for example, features detailed costumes and accessories that are hard to replicate accurately.
Because the resale market is active, fakes can appear at seemingly reasonable prices. Knowing what to look for helps you avoid disappointment and protect your collection.
The Limits of Price Alone
A low price is a red flag, but it is not proof of a fake. Some sellers may offer discounts on authentic items, and some fakes are priced to match the retail value. Always combine price with physical inspection.
Verdicts on Common Claims
- Claim: 'If the price is too good to be true, it's fake.': Verdict: Partly true. A very low price is a warning sign, but some fakes are priced to look like deals. Always inspect the item physically, not just the price. Compare the price with the official catalog price (e.g., $53.24 for the Let's Checkmate Queen) and be suspicious of anything far below that.
- Claim: 'Authentic LABUBU plush has perfect stitching.': Verdict: True. Authentic pieces have clean, even stitching with no loose threads. Fakes often have uneven or sloppy stitching, especially around the face and costume details. Run your fingers along the seams and look for any irregularities.
- Claim: 'The hanging card is always printed on thick cardstock.': Verdict: True for authentic items. The card should be sturdy and have crisp, vibrant print. Fake cards may feel flimsy or have faded colors and blurry text. Check the card's weight and print quality under good lighting.
- Claim: 'Official packaging is sealed and includes a unique code.': Verdict: Mostly true. Authentic LABUBU products come in sealed packaging with official branding. While not all items have a unique code, the packaging should look professional and match official images. Compare the packaging with official product photos and look for any misspellings or misaligned logos.
